Nissan Repair: Protective Plate, catalytic convertor, nissan micra

Question
Hi Von. A metal plate has fallen off from underneath my 2000 Nissan Micra Celebration. I've been informed it's a protective plate for the catalytic convertor, but with it being Christmas I could do to wait a while before I get it fixed.

Will my car be safe to drive without the plate or could I do more damage, and will it cost much to get it fixed?

This is the first problem I've ever had with the car.

Many thanks, John.

Answer
John,

If it is the bottom plate you are fine as long as you do not park over materials that are combustible.  That is, do not park on leaves or grass.  Just get it corrected when you can.  If it is the heat shield for the floor you should get it replaced soon as it protects the car from the heat of the converter.
