Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Lawnmower, internal passages, riding lawnmower
QuestionIt will crank but not start. When I pull the plug it has gas on it. Sometimes after I clean the plug it will start but I usally have to mess with it for over an hour or so. The plug that is in it is new. Is there something I can do to get it back to starting everytime I try it. This is a Cub Cadet riding lawnmower.
AnswerIf the plug comes out wet, it's likely one of two things. You may have an ignition problem (if it's a points ignition, replace the points and condensor). If you have a nice strong spark (can jump a 1/8" gap), it's possible you have an issue with the air filter being plugged or a blockage inside the muffler. If you have left fuel in it over the winter, you will need to thoroughly clean the carb, including pushing a piece of tag wire through all of the internal passages (the engine may be flooding because of debris under the inlet needle in the carb) Hope this helps.
