Small Engines (Lawn Mowers, etc.): Kholer 18 HP, retaining compound, kohler command

Question
I have a Kohler Command 18 hp no power and puffing air out the side of the cyclinder. Pulled the head(?) and discovered a bent rod and the valve seat out of position on the head(?).

I assume if I reseat the seat and put it back together it will come apart again later.

What is the long term fix and do I need to get a new rocker along with a new push rod?

What else should I do while I have the motor on the bench? It is about 12 years old.  It is on a Cub Cadet.

This happened right after my son over filled with oil. Does that sound like a typical problem with too much oil?

Thanks,

Answer
You should replace the pushrod and rocker and inspect the pivot for damage as well.  You can re-install the seat (with a Loctite retaining compound) and peen around it's diameter, if required, to make sure it stays put.  I would recommend, that you get a machine shop to do the repair as the seat should be re-ground after it's re-installed.  If there is too much oil, the engine can hydraulically lock itself....the results are not predictable but this could have caused your problem.  Hope this helps.
