Snowmobile Repair: 1989 Safari expedition, carburetor repair kit, crank shaft

Question
Hi, thanks for your time...I own a 1989 Bombardier safari expedition...Here is my problem...When it gets hot, like after a 15 minutes ride, it seems to choke.  The engine revolution gets lower and lower even if I keep giving gas. That problem seems to happen even more when I ride with a passenger, no matter the weight of the person...I wonder if it's related to a temperature problem because it happen also when climbing a good hill...That's about it...thank you...Hope you have good news for me...

Answer
Hello Pascal,

From what you are describing, it could be any or all of these three things. 1, fouled or inncorrect spark plugs, 2, Dirty or improperly adjusted carburetor 3, leaking crank seals. You best bet would be to start with NGK BR8EYA spark plugs, which are not gimmicky and are designed for snowmobiles with this problem. Next, a carburetor repair kit from www.denniskirk.com would be in order. If all else fails, spray carb cleaner all around the crank shaft (behind the clutch) and then see if this makes it run better. If it runs better with the carb cleaner on the seals, it needs new ones. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
