Snowmobile Repair: 91 yamaha phazer secondary clutch alignment, clutch alignment tool, manufacturers websites

Question
Hello

I have taken apart my 91 phazer snowmobile for some much needed attention. I took both shafts out of the machine. Now I have only the shaft that the secondary clutch is mounted, to reinstall. I do not know the specs. for the alignment of the secondary compared to the primary. I would like to get this right the first time.

Thanks for your time.

Answer
Hello Colin,

Sorry for the long delay in my response, I haven't been here to answer questions the past few days. In order to check the offset of the two clutches, you will need a tool similar to the one shown here : http://www.snowtechmagazine.com/articles/2002/images/freehpwer/free1.jpg   .  Otherwise, you will most probably be spending a few days pulling your hair out, trying to get it just right. I looked through all of the major manufacturers websites and could not locate an aftermarket clutch alignment tool for your sled. Your best bet would be to check with your Yamaha dealer for an OEM one. It shouldn't cost more than $40, and is well worth it. If your clutch is not aligned properly, you will need to insert shims in front of or behind the secondary clutch, I hope this helps to answer your question. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I will be glad to help. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
