Snowmobile Repair: 89 polaris 340, polaris 340, wiseco pistons

Question
had a hole in piston, replaced both, and wrist pins and rings, no compression on one cyl. i think ring is stuck in piston and will not expand, causing no compresion.any ideas?
also i put the arrow on the pistons facing towards the coil end which is opposite from the clutch, which i believe is the front of the engine,im pretty sure this is the way i took it apart but i dont have a book to check, the engine will start but only half power, cant get ring to expand, should i take it apart and start over?many thanks

Answer
Hello Jim,

It sounds like it would be best to remove the heads and look it over good. Be sure to use the sane brand piston and rings, there are some Wiseco pistons that are the " high performance" and require the "high performance" rings. Also, make sure there isn't any carbon in the ring grooves. The only way to truely tell what is going on in there is to dissasemble it. Another recomendation, would be to buy a new ring, to replace the new one that is not expanding. It sounds like that ring was damaged in installation. Sorry for the misfortune. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you have any other questions, and I will be glad to help. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
