Snowmobile Repair: Polaris Indy Lite GT, polaris indy, auto parts stores

Question
I just purchased a 1994 Indy Lite GT a few weeks ago and when the person I bought it from drove it off the trailer the headlight went out. I bought a new bulb and it blew within a half an hour of installation. I used it a few times during the day for a total of maybe 3 hours or less but when I tried to start it this past weekend to measure the voltage going to the headlight it wouldn't start. The CDI looked like the original and one plug wire was shot so I had the CDI tested and it was bad so I replaced it. It started up very easily and I measured 1 VDC at the headlight, high or low beam. My first reaction was voltage regulator and both snowmobile mechanics that I talked to said the same. Yesterday I picked up a new voltage regulator and put it in and now the voltage at the headlight measures 2 VDC and the machine runs much smoother. The tail light is burned out also and now I'm thinking that maybe this problem is what ruined the CDI. What do I check next?
Thanks for any information you can give me.

Answer
Hello Bob,

It would certainly say that the voltage regulator caused all of this trouble. As for the tail light, you should be able to purchase a new one at most auto parts stores. Other than that, the sled should be good to go. If any of the gauges are inoperable, you may want to check the fuses.  Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Articatman
