Snowmobile Repair: y pipe repair, muffler repair, pencil lead

I have a 1997 Yamaha xtc 600 twin. Today I noticed the y pipe has a crack on its top where the pipe splits to the two cylinders and a hole about the size of a pencil lead where the flange meets the block. Without spending $100 for a new y pipe, can it be fixed with muffler repair putty or welded. If I choose to do nothing, what are the potential problems. The sled has 4400 miles on it and the engine was rebuilt at 3900 miles by a reputable yamaha dealer. Any suggestions?

  My recommendation is to get the pipe replaced. You will end up with the sled running erratically. You could try getting welded also. You may want to look on www.alssnowmo.com or www.ebay.com for a Y-pipe also. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
