Snowmobile Repair: 74 arcticat Lynx 1 292, arcticat, home hope

Question
I have had this sled for a long time but it has been sitting inside for 3 years.  Before it had been put away it was ran every year and always was serviced.  I have just cleaned the carb, and put a new spark plug in, it now starts and runs for a little bit and then starts to stall.  Just before it does this you can see gas get spit out of the carb.  Any thing would help I have tried everything I know, tried to adjust the carb screw on the top with no help.  Please help, thanks a bunch.

Answer
Hello Nate,

Here is what I would recommend to get if fired up good and have it stay running. Start with installing a new carb kit, and checking the float height. Clean the jets as good as possible, and soak all of the carb parts in solvent over night. Something else to take a look at is the points. Make sure they are opening and closing, and are gapped properly. Try removing the spark plug and having a helper crank the engine over while you hold your thumb over the plug hole. There should be enough compression to blow your thumb off of the hole. Last of all, you may want to take the muffler off, and make sure no rodents have made it their home. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck with the sled! --Arcticatman
