Snowmobile Repair: fuel delivery, location purposes, float bowl


Question
Thanks for the response! I can see fuel in the line from the tank to what appears to be a fuel pump, but no fuel in any line running from that module to the carb. What does the primer button do? Squirt fuel directly into the carb? Is the fuel pump electric or mechanical?

Have a 94 or 95 Yamaha Enticer (2 cylinder, 4 stroke). Not getting fuel to the carburator, but there is fuel in the tank. Is there a fuel pump on this unit? Primer button doesn't seem to work either. Unit did start when we sprayed ether directly into the cylinders.

   Yes, your sled is equipped with a fuel pump. You can view it here, for location purposes; http://216.37.204.202/yamaha_oem/YamahaSnow.asp?Type=13&A=73&B=2  .  I think you are looking at either a clogged fuel filter or a carburetor with a stuck inlet needle. Just to let you know, the fuel filter is located inside of the fuel tank; http://216.37.204.202/yamaha_oem/YamahaSnow.asp?Type=13&A=73&B=21  .  My recommendation is to install a new filter, which will probably cure everything ( the in-tank filters are very clog-prone. ). Other than that, installing new fuel lines, taking the pump apart very carefully for cleaning, and cleaning the carbs float bowl should make it completely reliable. Hope this helps you out.  Sorry for the delay in my response. Your best bet would be to take the 2 bolts that hold the pump in place off. Then, remove all of the hoses from the pump. After this, you can withdraw the pump from the machine and disassemble the pump by removing the four screws on top. You will need to ask your Dealer for a pump kit, as it is not a common standard pump. You can also buy a new pump here; http://216.37.204.202/yamaha_oem/YamahaSnow.asp?Type=13&A=73&B=2  .  Unfortunately, the pumps for your machine are rather expensive. You could try carefully cleaning the pump and re-installing it. If you decide to clean it, here is how to get it started. Take the plugs off, and pour a teaspoon of gas down the plug holes. Reinstall the plugs, and crank the sled over. Keep doing this procedure 4-5 times and it should start. One thing that is important to check, before even bothering to remove the pump is the impulse line. It is a hose that goes from the engine to the pump. This is what powers up the pump.
