Snowmobile Repair: Cylinder head gasket 1994 Arctic cat puma, cylinder head gasket, head bolts

Question
I have a 1994 Arctic Cat Puma 340 the is running a bit loud. Upon closer examination I have some oil leaking from arounf the cylinder head gasket of one cylinder. I have ordered the gasket and intend to install it myself. Is this likely the source of my noise? Any specifics i should be aware of in changing this gasket? Where can I found out what the head bolts need to be torqued to?

Answer
Hello Jamie,

The sled was probably just leaking causing the extra noise, but take a look at your exhaust springs to make sure all of them are tight. When you change the gasket, don't use a screw driver or any thing like that to pry the head up. Just hit the head on the side with a rubber mallet. You may want to clean the gasket surfaces real good before reassembly also. Arctic Cat recommends a small amount of RTV sealant on the new gasket. Torque it up 22-29 ft. lbs. 30-39 N.m . Hope this helps you. Good luck with the Cat! --Arcticatman
