Snowmobile Repair: track replacement, retaining ring pliers, polaris rxl

Question
I have a 95 Polaris RXL that I am changing the track. I have it all taken apart but do not know how to get the driveshaft dropped. I have the chaincase taken apart and the bearing off of the clutch side. I am stuck at this point.  Suspension is also already removed.

Answer
Hello Dennis,

I believe you are trying to remove the drive shaft, from the chain case? In this case, you will need to loosen the chain fully. After this, remove the bolts the hold the two sprockets in place. Pull up on both sprockets at the same time, taking note of any spacers that are underneath the sprockets. The chain will come up with the sprockets. After this, there are three bolts that hold the bearing assembly in place( most all Polaris machines). There is also a retaining ring that holds the bearing in. You will need retaining ring pliers to remove it. After you remove these bolts and ring, the drive axle will completely come off. Here are all of the diagrams for the sled, for re-assembly;  http://216.37.204.202/polaris_oem/PolarisSnow.asp?Type=12&A=26   .   If you need any help at all, let me know and I will be more than happy to help. Good luck with the Polaris! --Arcticatman
