Snowmobile Repair: starter rope tension, rope tension, starter rope

Question
Probably a dumb question.I'm new at working on these things.I replaced the recoil spring in my 1980 340 Enticer Deluxe, but can't get good tension on the rope.Is there a trick to this?what am i missing? Thanks,Mike.

Answer
Hello Mike,

Nope it's not a dumb question! Here's the Yamaha instructions for replacing the rope: The starter must be removed in order to replace the rope. The rewind spring should be wound into the housing, begining at outsiside and in a counter-clockwise direction. PRE-LOAD THE REWIND SPRING APROX. 1/3 TURN, to make sure that the handle is pulled back snugly when released, prior to re-installing the starter. That should be it, just turn it 1/3. Hope this helps, let me know if I can answer any other questions you might have! Good luck with the Yami! --Arcticatman
