Steering Column Repair: 85 k20 wiper switch, switch one, toggle switch

Question
I have a question and I hope I am asking the right person. I am so lost. I found this web site through searching. i think I'd like to join. Feel I could help. Anyway, i have a 85 K-20 (yard plow). Now the wiper switch was on the column until I put a 80? column into it. now I did get a switch from a 81 1/2 ton 2wd. but have just the switch and plug. Do you know of any way to make the switch work in my 85? A wiring dyagram? or know of a way to make the wipers work on a toggle switch? It is just a yard plow. It is snowing right now! In October! And I have no wipers :-( I thank you very much for your time even if you can't help me.

Answer
Hey Rocky:

Interesting question & dilemma.
Going back 30 years is going to test me some.  I do not have  schematic or access to one for any 1980's vehicles, but I can offer you this.  The wipers utilize a ground system to operate the different speeds.  The power goes directly to the motor from the ignition.  The wiper switch grounds out one or more relays in the switch to run the multiple speeds.  I would recommend grounding the wires at the switch, one by one and see if you can get the motor to respond (key on).  If by chance you ground a powered wire, the worst case is you pop a fuse.  If I'm not mistaken, you can ground one wire for high speed and if you ground 2 simultaneously it goes to low speed.  Then by grounding just the second one, it will park the wipers.

I hope I've helped you

Good luck in the snow
