Steering Column Repair: replacement lock ignition cylinder 1994 Plymouth Voyager, torx screw, plymouth voyager

Question
The ignition cylinder broke on my 94 Plymouth voyager, I read your post on how to fix it, I got it removed, the problem is the replacement cylinder that I bought for it has a bracket, the one I removed has the Pin. I cannot find the Pin cylinder in town and was wondering if the bracket type should work, I could not figure out how to make it work, but I'm not a mechanic and I'm not very good with repair work. Any info would be a great help.

Answer

ignition switch
Hi Thomas:

The replacement switches and locks are designed that way because the originals kept getting stolen; the pin was too easy to wedge out.
Your lock also came with an extra black torx screw that has a long shoulder.  That screw is going to be screwed into the lock cylinder where the pin used to be, with the bracket in place.  It's now what holds the lock into the switch.
I have enclosed a picture of how the bracket lays on the switch and an arrow showing you where the screw goes.  Don't tighten the screw too much, just tight enough so nothing comes apart.  Once you install the lock and bracket with the screw, you can reassemble the switch (if you took it out)

I hope this helped you
