Steering Column Repair: 79 GM Steering wheel dissassembly, chevrolet truck, steering wheel

I have recently removed the steering wheel from my vehicle and replaced the ignition. However know that I am putting it back together it isn't seating correctly I have about a 1/2 in gap when I try to put the steering wheel back on. Can you help?
