Steering Column Repair: 1992 Ford E150 Shift Cable, ford steering column, ford e150

Question
As I took my van out of park, something snapped and now the shift lever is loose.  I can shift to reverse, drive, low,2 but not back to park.  The lever is sloppy and has to be shifted by feel.  You answered a similar question with a discussion of a different design shifter.  I have removed the column cover and can see some of the components but not how to take the cable loose.

Answer
Hi Jim:

It sounds like the shift tube either came apart or snapped.
We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to repair and/or rebuild the shift tube of a Ford steering column.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions on our website. Although the example is for a different vehicle than yours, the column is identical to yours (tilt and non tilt use the same housing)

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, if you need parts to repair this column simply follow the links to order on line or email us on our "Contact Us / Order Parts" page and we will get back in touch with you personally

Good luck

Doug
