Steering Column Repair: 1993 Tilt, Manual C/1500 steering column, chevy 1500, manual c

Question
I have a 1993 Chevy 1500, v6 manual (on the floor) that the tilt has come loose on in the steering column. I have been told that since the amount of loose the wheel has, I am going to have to replace the entire column. One, if this is the case, how am I going to have to go about doing this. Two, if there is an easier, more cost efficient way to fix this problem, what do I do?

Answer
Hi Aaron:

You may have some bad information.  Unless the upper half of the column has actually dropped to the seat and will rotate and twist with only the wires and linkage rods keeping it attached, it can be most likely be reassembled and tightened.
Once in a while, the metal tube inside breaks and there is nothing to tighten, but 90% of the time it's repairable.
We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions.
