Steering Column Repair: locked up, jeep cherokee, chevrolet truck

Question
Hey Douglas, I took my 1990 jeep four wheeling the other day and in the middle of the night i turned the car off to cool down.  When i went to turn it back on the steering column locked up and i had some trouble getting the key turned.  The incident is happening more and more now; sometimes it can take an hour of wiggling the wheel and jiggling the key to get it to unlock.  I have no clue what to do.  Again the car is a 1990 Jeep Cherokee with a tilt column?  Thanks for the help - Jim

Answer
Hi Jim:
The most popular problems with the Jeep ignition are the lock cylinder (where the key goes in) and the ignition switch which is located on the steering column tube near your ankles under the dash.
From the sounds of your situation, I would go to the lock cylinder first.
