Steering Column Repair: TILT STEERING LEVER REMOVAL, chevy silverado, torx screws

Question
I own a 2001 chevy silverado x-cab pickup.  I am having a problem removing the tilt steering adjustment and locking lever so that I can get to the wiring inside.  The plastic shroud around the steering column needs to be completely removed for access.  Something in the column is making my headlights flicker or go out as I adjust the column.  There must be a short or pinched wire inside.

Thanx for your attention

Hi William:
The lever actually just snaps straight out (left) away from the column.  Use a large screwdriver to help you pry it away from the column.  Once that is off, there are 2 20 torx screws holding the lower cover to the column.  You don't need to remove the upper cover to access the wires unless you determine the problem is in the multi-switch.  If so, you would have to remove the upper cover by removing the 2 inverted torx screws and removing the lock cylinder (which can be tricky).  I'll enclose a picture to show you how to remove the lock, but it's tough with the cover in place.

Good luck
