Steering Column Repair: Hazard Switch Replacement, chevy k1500, gm vehicles

Question
I own a 1996 Chevy K1500 I am having a problem getting my hazard lights to work.  I think that I need to replace the switch because it will not remain in the position that will allow the lights to flash without me holding the switch down with my hand.  I am not sure how to get the cover off of the steering column & then where to go from there.  Diagrams would be nice.  Thanks.

Answer
Hi Ron:

It sounds like you do need to replace the multifunction switch (the hazard switch is part of the multiswitch).

We have recently uploaded pages and a description of how to replace the multi-switch on GM vehicles.  They are broken down into step by step detailed instructions. Here is a link to that page.

I hope these instructions help you.  If not, please contact me again for more information.
Lastly, I would price out the switch before you begin, as some of them are quite expensive.

Good luck

Doug
