Steering Column Repair: Steering Column, ball bearings, snap ring

Question
Hi Doug,
I have a 1990 Chevy Ext Cab K/1500. The steering wheel had a very bad wobble in it.(tilt steering)  So I replaced the upper steering column bearing.  When I put everything back together, I noticed that inner race would pop out with the slightest wiggle of the steering shaft during re-assembly. The old bearing was indeed wore out and all the ball bearings where just laying in the housing when I took it apart.  I can't seem to figure out why the inner race keeps wiggling out of the bearing.  As of now, the wobble is worse than when I started.  I would really appreciate any help/advice you have for me.  Thank you

Answer
Hi Chad:

It is normal for the shaft to want to slide down prior to putting the snap ring and spring on the upper end.  If it moves after those pieces are installed then you are missing something.  We have recently uploaded some videos on our website to give you first hand viewing of how to remove, disassemble, and reassemble the parts you are talking about. They are broken down into step by step 2-3 minute detailed videos with instructions.
