Steering Column Repair: steering, shift indicator, lock cylinder

Question
i own a 2004 aztec and the steering is locking and i can't move the key to turn the vehicle to the on position or start. Along with that i can't move it out of park. I have moved the wheel left and right moved the key around and nothing. Tried jumping it nothing all the power still works (ligths, locks, windows. If it's the ignition switch that's cool, but than how do i get it out of park?

Answer
Hi Bryan:
It sounds like the ignition lock cylinder (not the ignition switch) has broken apart inside the housing, not allowing it to turn.  This happens on occasion.  The only repair is to drill out and remove the old lock, replacing it with a new cylinder.
As far as the shifter goes, there should be a release over-ride right on the console itself.  You may have to pop out a small cover to access it, but most floor shifters have that function right next to the shift indicator letters.
I hope this helped you
