Steering Column Repair: 94 Ford E350 ignition, ford e350, starter solenoid

Question
QUESTION: When I attempt to start the truck it will get stuck trying to turn over, I have to completely turn the power off to the truck for it to stop.  From the advice of 3 mechanics they said it was the actuator pin.  I've purchased the pin and the piece that attaches to it.  How do I replace it?  Do I have to disassemble the entire steering column?

ANSWER: Hi Criss:
When you say the truck will get stuck trying to turn over, do you mean the key and lock cylinder get stuck in the 'start' position, or do you mean the key and lock turn ok, but the starter stays running and engaged?  These have 2 very different solutions.

Let me know & then I can help

QUESTION: The key and lock turn ok and it gets stuck running and engaged.  I can even take the key out of the ignition and it will stay engaged.

Answer
That's what I thought...The problem is in the starter solenoid on the starter itself.  It's not releasing as it should.  The key and ignition switch release fine and stop sending current to them, but the starter is not disengaging the way it should.  My guess is it's the starter solenoid that's sticking & that's part of the starter.  It's mounted on top of the starter and comes with a new one.

There is nothing wrong in your column.
