Steering Column Repair: Steering column, ford bronco, head bolts

Question
I have a 1992 ford bronco and the steering wheel column just moves all around and was told it needed tightened or something about bearings?? The lady I got it from said her kids always yanked on the steering wheel so that's how it got to swing all around instead of being tight like it should be. Is there any advice or a place you can point me to??  Thanks

Answer
Hi Mike:

I believe the column has come loose where the tile flange mounts to the tube.  You may be able to see the if you look from the bottom (around the dash) upwards towards the steering wheel.  I think there are 4 allen head bolts that hold the flange to the tube with a hook style clamp.
Make sure the hook is in place on the tube and then the bolts can be tightened, but tighten them evenly and snugly, don't crank on them.
If it's still loose after the nuts are tight, then the tube is torn and needs to be either flattened out or replaced (after a full dis-assembly)

I hope this helps.
Good luck
