Steering Column Repair: wiper switch, 1997 chevy cavalier, chevy cavalier

I have an 1997 chevy cavalier and the wiper switch is broken. This switch is located on the column and was wondering if i had to remove the ignition to remove the outer plastic coverings?

My recollection on your vehicle is that there are 3 obvious screws on the bottom of the column, (7 mm heads).  The top cover should just pull and snap off (and on).  The first retaining bolt  holding the wiper switch to the column is on top.  The only other problem you may run into is the 1 bolt from the steering wheel side.  Just rotate the wheel enough to gain access to that bolt & you should be fine.
