Steering Column Repair: 1993 GMC Safari Van, gmc safari, safari van

Hi: I went to use the turn signal when making a left turn. I pushed the lever up & everything was fine, until I made my turn & the lever returned, but I heard a click & not the lever just swings in the breeze. Neither turn singal wil operate. My question are. 1) did the level break & what needs to be replaced? 2) Is it necessary to disarm the air bag before proceeding to remove the steering wheel? Thanks in advance for any & all help.

Hello Dave,
Your turn signal cancel may have snapped the spring or the switch failed on it's own. Either way, you're going to need to pull the steering wheel. To disable the airbag, simply disconnect both battery terminals.
