Steering Column Repair: Tilt steering wheel, buick century, steering wheel

Question
Hi,  I have a 2001 Buick Century.  RIght now my tilt steering is locked at its highest position.  Help.  what can a girl do.  I need it fixed fast, can't drive it that way.  Thanks

Answer
Hello Ellen,
More than likely the steering wheel tilt mechanism is wedged in the lock. This is a common problem when the tilt lever is released without holding the steering wheel. The spring force is enough to cause it to wedge. I would suggest having a friend hold the tilt lever in the released position, while you sit in the drivers seat to give the wheel a few good tugs. You need even pressure on both sides of the steering wheel that can't be accomplished with one hand holding the release lever.
I hope that helps.
Have a great day!
