Steering Column Repair: Hi/Low Beam Mechanism on GM column, torx bolts, size blazer

Question
I have a 1990 Chevy Full Size Blazer, a few months ago I took the column apart because it was loose.  I tend to use the steering wheel to pull myself up since it's 4X4.  Anways, I tightened the four torx bolts and put the column back together.  Since then I have realized that I did not hook my brights back up.  I took the column back apart and I can see where the blicker handle pushes on a plastic piece that in turn pushes on a rod that works the switch.  However, I can not get the rod/plastic piece to stay in place.  I pull on the blinker handle and it will depress the switch once and then seems like it falls out of place. How do I fix this?

Answer
Hello Brian,
Make sure the plastic piece is saddled on the curve of the rod properly. The seat on the plastic piece for that rod should have a lip. Sometimes this lip will break when it is reassembled. I suspect that is what happened with yours. The way to hold it in place on reassembly is with a dab of grease. Make sure it is a lightweight grease as too heavy grease can make it hard and slow to operate.
Hope that helps,
Have a great day!
