Steering Column Repair: hi/low beam switch, small screws, 2 nuts

Question
Headlights on my '94 S-10 Blazer are stuck on high beam.  Switched them on, can't turn them off. Everything else on steering column works fine (cruise, wipers, turn signal).  Am I correct that the multi-function switch includes the hi/low beam (everything except the turn signal)?  I understand that a lockplate compressing tool is required to replace the multi-switch, is a steering wheel puller also needed?

Many thanks!  --Don

Answer
Hello Don,
The high beam switch is located outside of the column itself, on the top of the column under the dash. It is held in place along with the ignition switch with 2 or 3 small screws. There is a rod coming from the multi-function lever and it simply pushed the switch when the lever is pulled. You can get to it by removing the lower plastic covers of the dash, and then the 2 nuts mounting the column to the dash. Drop the steering wheel down as far as you can and you should be able to access it. If not (depending how agile you are), you may have to pull the steering wheel so you have more room to work.

Hope that helps. Please feel free to leave comments and feedback.
Have a great day!
