Steering Column Repair: steering column, chevy pickup, switch assembly

Question
I replace steering column in a 1990 chevy pickup now it starts in accessories. I can't seem to get my timing right

Answer
I'm not sure if you replaced the whole column or not. The ignition key turns a gear that pushes and pulls a rod that goes to the ignition switch assembly located on the top of the column under the dash. You should have seen it toward the lower part of the column close to the bulkhead (floor). The accessory position on the key switch moves the rod in the opposite direction of start/run. Therefore my guess would be a faulty ignition switch assembly causing the contacts to touch the solenoid circuit in the accessory position. Locate the rod going into the switch assembly and watch it closely as you turn the key (with battery disconnected). This will help you rule out whether the rod is properly installed or not.

I hope that helps.
Have a great day!
