Steering Column Repair: replace column?, column shift, wiring harness

Question
I have an 82 s10, everytime i shift gears power power fluctuates, the headlights  flicker, power drops dramatically, it's a column shift, would it be the column itself i should replace or the colum completely, or would it be the wiring harness?

any info would be much appreciated, thx alot

It sounds like you have a wiring harness problem. Check the bulkhead at the fire wall where the harnesses hook together. You will see a bolt in the center of the bulkhead Remove it and disconnect harness under the hood. Check all connections and spray with silicone and reinstall. I can't think of anything in the column that could cause this problem.
