Steering Column Repair: Easiest fix for steering column repair, steering column repair, factory security

Question
I have an 89 camaro auto w/vats that someone attempted to steal and damage to the steering column was the result. My question is would it be cheaper and easier for me to have the column removed and replaced with another or have the existing column repaired. Also this car has remote start and will having this feature complicate the repair. Thank you, any advise you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

You did not state if it was tilt and if it had a key release lever.
Remote start should not effect it, but be aware that your factory security has been compromised because of it. The worst time you will have is going around the wiring disaster you probably have under the dash. Most of these alarms and remote starts are just slapped up under the dash.
