Subaru Repair: lighted heat/ ac buttons, subaru outback, subaru dealer

Question
my wife's 1997 subaru outback sedan has lost the dashboard backlights for the icons on the heater a/c controls ( air flow direction)- the next row (audio controls) is ok. also the icon for the heated passenger seat switch on the shift console ( the low and high heat lights show when activated, but the icon of the seat doesn't work). doesn't seem to be a fuse - any ideas?

Answer
Hello Jim,

The lights in the heater controls are called the mode selector bulbs and they go out quite frequently and are readily available at any good Subaru Dealer parts department. There are three bulbs that will need to be done two of them are the same.  It is best to remove the mode selector and replace the bulbs on a bench than to wrestle with them in the car. If you aren't up for the task your self I think you should expect to pay any where from $100.00 to $125.00 to have the bulbs replaced. The bulb in the heated seat switch is not replaceable separate from the switch.  If the heater works I would suggest living with it.  Hope that helps
