Subaru Repair: 97 Subaru Impreza outback Wagon, subaru impreza outback, cv shaft

Question
My 97 outback clicks while making right hand turns while already moving and from dead stops. I believe this means that the cv shaft needs to be replaced however, I am not completely familiar with subaru's. I checked the cv boot and the passenger side boot closest to the wheel is broken all the way around. If it is the cv shaft, is it difficult to replace? Are there any tricks?

Thanks

Answer
Yes, you will need to replace that axle shaft. There is a pin that needs to be driven out where the axle connects to the transmission. Then you need to disconnect the ball joint from the lower control arm, unbolt the axle nut and push the axle out of the hub. Slide axle of transmission stub. Note the orientation of the holes in the axle where it connects to the transmission, Each side is a different size. You will see the holes in the transmission stub are different sizes as well, you will need to line them up correctly in order to the pin back in.
