Subaru Repair: Legacy exhaust/fuel smell, subaru legacy wagon, subaru legacy

Question
I have a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon (2.2 L) with 113,000k (I bought it at 107K).  I have two questions.  Whenever I drive above 60 miles per hour or go up any kind of a hill I notice a strong smell of exhaust in the car, regardless of whether my air intake is on fresh or recirculate.  The other problem I have is that randomly I will smell fuel inside my car.  It usually happens around the time when I get gas (reg. unleaded) but it doesn't happen every time.  Thank you in advance for any information.

Answer
Check for any leaks under car, or torn axle boots. Also check all the hoses going to the air intake box. If those aren't it, then you may want to have it looked at. As far as the fuel smell, it is common for the fuel filler neck to leak. I would start there.
