Subaru Repair: rear break lights flashing, impreza outback sport, dash clock

Question
I have a 1998 Impreza Outback Sport. When I replaced the dead battery, the dash clock and the rear break lights started to flash on and off for approx 8 to 10 seconds, stop for about 5   seconds and then the flashing starts all aver again. I can pull the f-fog fuse in the dash and the flashing stops. Also there is a loud clicking (like a relay) when the flashing is going on.

Answer
This is normal. Everytime your car loses power they will do this. Under the left side of your dash you should find a button. It is either mounted to the panel under the steering wheel and over by the hood release handle. Or it could just be stuffed under the dash. If you can't find the button look for two small brown wires, they should lead you to the button. Once you find the button, turn the key to the ON position and press the button. This should stop the lights from flashing. If for some reason you can't find the button, disconnect the negative terminal from battery, turn the key to the ON position, then reconnect the negative terminal to the battery. The clock will flash till you turn it on and reset everything.
