Subaru Repair: 2005 WRX fuel filter, fuel filter, wrx

 I just received a reply from the dealer I have my car serviced at concerning the fuel filter in the 2005 wrx. They stated and I quote " The fuel filter is part of the fuel pump assembly which is located in the fuel tank of the 2005 wrx and needs only to be changed if and when there is a failure of the fuel pump". This is counter to what it states in the owners manual regarding this issue. Can you please tell me which is correct and what if any recourse I would have in getting the dealer to follow through with the required mainteneance. I know I cannot be the only one out there with a 2005 wrx that has run into this issue.

Sounds like they could be right I checked my manual and it says it is in the tank, but it shows it can be replaced.  Honestly I have not seen one yet, I mostly work on cars that are out of warranty so this maybe something new in the fuel filter world.
