Subaru Repair: 96Subaru Outback, subaru outback, sulfur smell

Question
I just bought a 96'Subaru Outback a month ago with no warranty that has 137000 miles on it. The one fan to the radiator does not work and it is smoking and overheating. What could be my problem and what do I need to do to fix it?

Answer
There are lots of possibilities, you can start with checking the fuse for the cooling fan, next if the fuse is ok check for power at the fan when the car is up to temp.Next inspect the cooling system for any problems, smell the overflow bottle for any presence of a fuel smell, sulfur smell or exhaust smell as none of these belong in the cooling system and you may have blown the head gaskets.Sorry your having a rough go and hope that helps.
