Subaru Repair: 1998 Outback, drive auto, turn the key

I have a 98 Outback with the factory keyless entry alarm.  Battery died.  Every time i connect terminals on new battery the alarm goes off and stays on. Using the remote does nothing.  Any ideas?  Is there a way to turn the alarm off or unhook it??  A fuse to pop out?

Very very common .Here is a procedure for resetting the alarm if the remote doesn't work and you cant locate the valet switch.Disconect battery negative terminal,turn the key to the run position,connect the negative terminal with the key on.Do this with eye protection on!.When you turn the key back to off the alarm should be fooled / reset.I hope that helps
