Subaru Repair: 2002 Forester - Clutch, clutch fork, forestor

Question
I recently bought a 2002 Forestor with about 92,000 Km.  During test driving no problem but within a week I got a vibration in neutral and with clutch fully engaged.  I called the dealer and they advised the clutch was going and needed to be replaced.  I picked it up, without repair, and the vibration was gone.  I find it funny they can diagnose the problem but didn't know about it prior to sale.  My question is could they have done something that made the vibration disappear during the first week/test drive?

Answer
I cant really comment on specific experiences with the dealer. What i can tell you is most dealers do a safety inspection on there used cars prior to selling them on there lot.The key word here is safety inspection.I don't know of anything they could have done for the vibration except for spray some lubricant at the clutch fork and hope it trickles down to the ball stop.A dry ball stop/pivot point for the fork is usually what causes the vibration you are desribing.Hope that helps
