hi nathan,
My 01 Forester has 106k miles and is due for the timing belt and was thinking of doing it myself. I've replaced timing belts/chains in 4.3 chevy & 2.2 mazda are there any special tricks of the trade that might help me be successful?I have a new belt and tensioner and was thinking of replacing the water pump also. Anything else?
thanks,
nate

I'm sorry, is this car a 2.5 or 2.2Li?  Get back and let me know!

Answer
To do the job right you may want to replace the cam seals and the crank seal.  I would only attempt this job myself with a good selection of tools, air tools espically.  I would say your hardest thing will be getting the crank pulley off it is seriously tight!  You will first want to pull your radiator out to give you some room.  I would try to find a good shop manual, I cant really explain everything good enough.  Hope I could help you!
