Subaru Repair: subaru, cv joints, brake rotors

Question
I have a 1997 subaru legacy le 4 wheel drive. With the vehicle loaded when I turn left I hear a grinding sound on the right side. The shaft and cv joints seem to be OK so does the hub bearings.Any help would be appreciated

Answer
Sounds like you have checked the most common areas of concern. The only other thing I can think of is a rear backing plate or dust plate. There is a heavy plate behind the rear brake rotors, that sometimes rusts and starts to separate. As it does, it gets closer and closer to the rotors. And, on turns, it starts to rub. Check that next. If that is it, some people grind away the part that is contacting the rotors, some people bend the plate away, and others replace the plate. Replacing is probably the best thing to do, but, it is also the most expensive. Good luck. Try back with more info if that doesn't help.
