My son svx radiator let go. He replaced it and the car overheated. We replaced thermostat (2 actually) and the car still overheats. Tried without thermostat and antifreeze getting forced out overflow. Seems to be head gasket. Oil is fine and not blowing white smoke. First is there a positive way to ensure its the head gasket and if so does the motor need to be pulled to do this and if so can you give me an outline on how to do this. My son is in high school and does not have a lot of $. My oldest son is in college which my wife and are are paying for so we do not have a lot of $. We bought this car 6 months ago for $3000 for him believing that Subaru was a solid investment. We already replaced the 2 front axles because CV's were gone. It also needs struts. Help please. Thank you Wayne.

You have a really neat, really fun car. But, it is going to be a head ache. Try a "block checker" product - available at NAPA and some other parts stores. With the radiator cap off, you hold the tool over the filler neck - if the liquid changes to the wrong color, you have a blown head gasket, cracked heads, or even a cracked block - most likely, a blown head gasket or warped heads. Both are fixable, but very timely. If you send me your email address, to spwilkins@yahoo.com, I will try to send you a pdf file with instructions, but it wont be easy. My humble opinion - if you arent in love with this car, get rid of it before it causes more problems. Sorry!

Thank you for the prompt reply. We will try the block checker first and see what that tells us. My son loves the car. I do not. I tried to dissuade him but he is a kid and likes having something unique. I understand. But if you can't drive it and keep borrowing Mom's car something has to give. Trying to sell this car as is a problem also I would think. So if you would email that pdf file to wayneiac@comcast.net than I would be most thankful and if you ever had any questions on old chevies than I would be glad to help you.

Tried to e-mail you with my yahoo account and my work account - kept coming back. Tried my work account and your comcast account. Hasn't come back yet. It is an 11 page doc, I can send it to you or fax it if this doesn't work.  Z

I have not heard of this product, but I have heard of products like this. Since it has a money back guarantee, and you have a really tough car to work on, I might try it. The only time we tried something like this, it was much cheaper and it did not work. And, the older I get, the righter my father gets!
