Towing Issues: Towing NJ to NY, u haul, great web site

my sister broke down in my car in NJ, we are from NY. I need to tow the car from NJ to NY. Can I use a truck to tow my car or does it have to be put on a flat bed? I have a friend using her AAA to go 100 miles but the other half of the journey would be done with a ford explorer and my mazda. Is this possible and legal?

U-Haul has a great web site where you can see if your vehicle can be used to tow their trailers or dollies.

BUT I have to say that they(U-Haul) do not like Explorers and tend to not let them tow anything...

Other than that I really have no idea of if it can be done with the vehicles listed as it depends on many things.
