Towing Issues: keeping the title, pinto wagon, miami beach area

Question
my car got towed from an accident .i dont have money to get it out. i want to give them the title but miami beach, fl towing company says i pay $300 n the title. do i have to pay n hand over my title?

Answer
Each tow company has policies which covers the payment of fees for towing and storage.

Now I am not familiar with the Miami Beach area contracts, but that does not really sound right to me.

Tow companies in some areas are required by contracts to pay the city for the rights to receive calls for towing service from the police department. That does cost money.
And they have to pay a driver, purchase fuel, have insurance and a lot of other expenses. Now that might all add up to about the 300 dollar total.

Now since the vehicle is wrecked (not sure what kind of car it is), you have to look at what kind of money it would bring from a wrecking yard - salvage yard.

Lets say you wrecked your 1975 Ford Pinto wagon, what is it worth without being wrecked. Maybe 200 or so in good shape.  I know that a 2010 Porsche is worth a lot more wrecked than the Pinto would be.

Hope this helps.
