Chevrolet Repair: 92 Blazer starting issue, jumper cables, battery cables

Question
QUESTION: My girlfriend has a 92 blazer that when it gets cold has a starting issue.  It cranks just fine but doesn't start.  We hooked up jumper cables to it and after letting the battery charge for a min it starts... but we have had the battery tested at two place and they have said the battery and alternator are ok.  Any ideas?

ANSWER: Hey,

If it cranks fine there is nothing wrong with the battery and for whatever reason the amount of time you are boosting it gives the defective system enough time to correct itself.  Fuel pressure needs to be checked.  The system needs a specified pressure to start.  Try cycling the key to help prime the fuel system.  IE:  off, on for 2 seconds, off, on for two seconds off, on for two seconds and then try cranking it.  IF this helps you might need a fuel filter or a fuel pump.

QUESTION: Is it possible that it might have something to do with the battery cables?

Answer
The only way that thing is going to have to do something with the cables is if it has a doubled up side terminal post.  A voltage drop due to corrosion may limit the current flow to the accessories but allow current to the starter motor.  I doubt it though.  It doesnt hurt to take them apart and clean the ends but it sounds more like fuel management.  If it turns over sharply then you know you have at least 150amps available to the starter and the rest of the electrical system.  The entire electrical system doesn't draw a quarter of what the starter does.
