Towing Issues: towing laws, storage fees, underground tanks

Question
at about 5 - 530 am my car started acting funny so i pulled it into a bp until i could get a hold of one of my friends to tow it. needless to say it got towed by a local towing company without me knowing. it wasn't even there a half of a day, was not blocking any pumps or in the way of anything. i did however go in and told the attendant i would be back to get it that same day. can they tow it in such short notice and what can i do to get it back cause i'm not paying the 150 to get it out. even if i had the money.

Answer
Well I really have a problem answering this as you did not tell me what city or state it happened in and as such I can not provide specific law references for you.

But gas stations have big problems with vehicles left there as its a lot of one person does not tell the other person about it.

Now you say that the vehicle was not blocking anything at all. Well I bet you did not think of the "UNDERGROUND TANKS" and how they get filled. Generally those are where there is a lot of room (tankers are big) and you might have parked where they could not get the fuel delivery.

But I can not see where you parked and so that would be my guess as to one reason.

Now as to the fees, I am sorry that you feel that you are not going to pay the fee to get it back, but that fee is just the begriming of a lot more fees. You have storage fees and then administrative fees, lien fees and such. It can add up to over a thousand dollars rather quickly.

And again since you did not mention the state I can not tell you if you live in a state where your drivers license can be suspended till you pay the towing and storage fees.
And you might be subject to collection attempts by the tow company and collection agencies for unpaid towing fees.

Hope you got it out or made arrangements to surrender the title to prevent further costs.

Short notice or not, it does sound like it might of been legal, but then again I have limited information
