Towing Issues: Legal towing?, dmv web, california dmv

Question
Yesterday my truck got towed from my mobile home complex  in California.  I parked in front went inside for just maybe not even a minute and when I came out it was gone.  I called the park manager and she told me that she did not report it.  My question to you is, is it legal for a tow truck to pick up a car from a prviate complex without an impound sheet, or without even been called for by the manager?  Please help.  I had to pay a total of 209.50.  Not happy.

Answer
Well California has many laws regarding towing and as such you might check out the California DMV web site and read about towing from fire lanes.

Reason I say that is in most mobile home complexes the roadways are designated fire lanes and California does allow patrol towing from fire lanes if the tow company has a signed agreement with the tow company.

But I also have to say that there are some tow companies who work the "Gray areas" or even do not care about the laws.

Now you always have the small claims court route and as such you would have to have great evidence to convince the judge you were wronged.

California DMV web site is at http://www.dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/vc/vc.htm

and a section which contains a lot of info on towing.
