Towing Issues: towing, tow truck driver, sunbelt rentals

Question
My husbands truck was towed from the Auto Zone Parking lot in Concord, NC late this morning.  There are no no parking/Auto Zone Employee and Patron Parking/time of day parking signs.  My husband drove there from our home about an hour away, to help at Sunbelt Rentals, a location across the street from the Auto Zone.  He arrived at work at 6:20 AM.  The gate was locked at Sunbelt and it was unsafe/no parking on the street.  He parked in the Auto Zone parking lot.  When someone finally arrived at 7:00 AM, late, my husband walked across the street to work.  Several hours later he noticed his truck on a tow truck.  He grabbed his keys and ran over.  The tow truck driver blamed the Auto Zone manager and the Auto Zone Manager blamed the tow truck driver; both saying the other one would have to do something.  In the interim, the tow truck driver left with my husbands truck.  He stopped down the street and allowed my husband to take his truck... for $150.  I understand in NC there is a law, Chapter 20, Article 7, 20-219-2 which state that a paper must be shown to the car owner, that was written by the property owner and given to the tow truck driver asking that a vehicle be towed.  My husband was never shown this.  Can you help?  My husband wont even make $150 today plus gas to drive to and from.

Answer
Yes, you are correct. A towing company must have a signed authorization to tow a vehicle from private property. I would suggest contacting the general manager from Auto Zone and telling them the story. Advise them that the manager was trying to blame the towing company. Insist that they reimburse you for the towing and if they say anything tell them that you intend to pursue it and will seek damages.
